I agree that I couldn't get enough talking about Japan, and there is always something to talk about especially their food. Before I splurge on Japanese food I always think about my budget, but not anymore because this two shop that I'm going to review are budget friendly!
Shinanoji Japanese Soba Noodles
The freshest soba are all here in Malaysia directly from Wakayama! This 40-years soba restaurant serves a variety of soba and you can choose either to enjoy it in hot or cold broth. š®
When I went to Japan, I tried soba for breakfast and it just made my stomach feels super good! I still remember that I emptied that whole bowl by myself and satisfaction level is just up in the par. Since Shinanoji is originated from Japan I have high hopes for them!
Halal Hotpot (Nabe) & Handmade Soba at J's Gate Dining Lot 10! |
The freshest soba are all here in Malaysia directly from Wakayama! This 40-years soba restaurant serves a variety of soba and you can choose either to enjoy it in hot or cold broth. š®
One of the main ingredients of Soba is buckwheat which is low fat, cholesterol free and rich in nutrients! So, if you're on a gluten-free diet this meal will help you that š
Menu at Shinanoji |
Standard Japanese Soba (Cold) - RM11 |
I would say the amount is for 1-3 person max depends on your appetite but for me, it would be for 2 people for full satisfaction. The best part is, its suitable for Malaysia weather because they usually served this during the summer season to cool it down.
In the menu, they called this as 'Standard Japanese Soba' but the real name is Zaru Soba. Take note that this type of soba is served with tsuyu (a mixture of soy sauce and other permissible ingredients).
So, you have to dip into the sauce and eat that alone. It may look simple, but it's actually full of flavor. Plus, the udon is really fresh, it got that chewy, soft and easy to bite into.
Ebi Tempura |
But, if you want more flavor you can order other things such as Ebi tempura! Another tip to enhanced the flavor is to add some condiments (Ebi tempura flakes or spices) into the sauce and voila you will keep eating it!

Fuji Sakura Japanese Hotpot
The stall is located side by side with the Soba shop, and they served a hotpot which the vice versa of cold soba.
Hotpot or known as Nabe is also one of the dishes that favored by all Japanese families. They made a 'Dashi' (soup stock) from bonito flakes and kombu (kelp) FRESH every day in the store!
So, the Dashi will be the best of every hotspot that you're ordered. If you already dine in at the restaurant, you might notice some changes because I did. When I first came, they have a step-by-step ordering system but I think this one is more systematic.
Menu for Fuji Sakura Hotpot |
Miso Udon Hotpot - RM16 |
We have taste Soba, and now 'Udon'! This type of noodles is made from a wheat flour noodle and it's a bit thicker than soba.
Just a few good amounts of this, you will feel very full. It was a hearty meal for me because they made the base soup, dashi themselves and the miso is not too overwhelming.
Btw, I ask them and all the meat is Halal and imported from Australia, and they have Muslims staff working there too. If you want a double confirmation, ask away! š
In terms of the amount, I think this is more suitable for one person more rather than two because the noodles are just enough for one. So, get yourself a full bowl of hot Udon now!
